does westfield care?

by DRB | Bradford | 01/09/10

Welcome to the "Westfield Shopping Experience"!

With their focus on opening Westfield Stratford in time for the London Olympics http://uk.westfield.com/stratfordcity, it's probably going to be some time before they're back in Bradford.

Yes, we also have the credit crunch, but whatever the reason(s), we believe they have a moral responsibility to carry out some interim landscaping to this central location in our city centre. The costs would be negligible for such a global company.
Was this just an over-sight by the top execs in Oz or maybe they simply don't care?

Corporate Social Responsibility?
  • DRB 03/11/09 08:37 - As time goes on and we hear of discussions between the council and Westfield, it's pretty clear that Westfield won't be returning to Bradford for some considerable time.
The hard economic facts are well documented and the reality is that this development will only ever be completed when retailers are able to generate profits from it and therefore have the confidence to committ to it. It ain't rocket science!
Westfield is a major global player and Bradford is just one of it's many 'moth-balled' projects.
I'm not convinced we really need it anyway. We already have plenty of shops for me. What will bring my family back shopping into Bradford city centre is a great place to be with lots going on. As a dad of 3 young lads, the City Park is of much more importance and relevance.
It will be part of how we differentiate from other cities.
